303 Stainless Steel
Stainless steel type 303 is specifically designed to exhibit improved machinability. It is a non-magnetic austenitic stainless steel that can not be hardened by heat treatment. 303 is a corrosion resistant steel which has a high resistance to oxidation. As with all stainless steels, the rate of oxidation is greatly affected by the service atmosphere, heating and cooling cycles and design considerations. Type 303 Stainless Steel stays austenitic at all temperatures. When it is heated between 800° F and 1500° F, carbides will precipitate at the grain boundaries. When reannealed, the carbides will redissolve.
