Duplex: 2205
Because of its high strength resistance to corrosion, 2205 is the most commonly used duplex stainless steel alloy. The S31803 standard composition of stainless steel 2205 is continually being refined and was endorsed as UNS S32205 in 1996. This 2205 has much better resistance to corrosion than the previous stainless steel, but is still compatible with many types of the earlier material. While it is strong and corrosion resistant, 2205 is generally not suitable for temperatures above 300° C because it suffers from precipitation of brittle micro-constituents, nor below -50° C because of its ductile-to-brittle-transition.
